Jaksta NOT working for videos from ctv.ca

Hi All,

I am trying to save a stream of some episodes of "Who's the Boss" from ctv.ca as it has never been released on DVD or anywhere else.

Example link:

https://www.ctv.ca/Whos-The-Boss/Video/S2E1-It-Happened-One-Summer--Part-1-vid1562896#/2

What would be the best way to achieve this? The ctv.ca tutorials seem to be for the Windows version of Jaksta.

Hi Ryan,

You are correct that the tutorials are only applicable tot he Windows version of Jaksta. The Windows and Macs version are quite different both in their appearance and their features/functionality. The DVR capture method is only a feature of the Windows version.

I can't seem to access any content on that site, even when using a VPN. Do you have any suggestions on how I can?

I will most likely need to test it myself if we are to determine what the issue is and whether a fix might be possible.

Hi Liam, thanks for the response. It works through my VPN if I use a VPN location in Canada. Could you try that?

Hi Ryan,

I managed to get it working when I set the VPN to Vancouver, Canada. Originally it was Toronto, so the site must geo-lock one and not the other.

When I did some testing I got a series of small playable files, but they had no content when played. There is definitely a download failure occurring.

I will have to pass it onto development and see if it's something we can build a fix for. Unfortunately I can give no ETA at this time, but I will keep you updated as best I can.

HI Ryan,

I have heard back from our dev team who have told me that site (or at least those videos) use sample-aes encryption, which we are not able to handle.

Unfortunately that means building a fix for Jaksta is not an option.

As a workaround, you could try using Jaksta Screen Recorder to record the videos as they are on the screen. The downside is that it needs to be recorded in real time. It's not exactly ideal, but sadly it's the only alternative that we have to offer.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or if I can help with anything else.

Hi Liam,

Thanks for following up. I'll try the workaround and see.
